Richard Rossi penned the script "Canaan Land" to expose fake preachers. Televangelists are trying to ban his film

I refuse to let my critics define me or my movie, I will finish Canaan Land and show it to all willing to watch. They help me because they compliment Canaan Land as worthy of being talked about.”
    — Richard Rossi
HOLLYWOOD, CA, USA, December 23, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Richard Rossi was a maverick minister in Pittsburgh when he discovered televangelists faking miracles for money. He vented his anger with writing. Rossi journeyed from scripture to script, writing "Canaan Land" a novel about a con-man preacher who falls in love with a sincere Christian and repents of fleecing the flock.

After decades of staging the story as a play, and a dream of making it into a movie, "Canaan Land," directed by Rossi, is an entry in the 2021 Oscars. The drama stars Knight Rider actress-singer Rebecca Holden as Sister Sara and Rossi playing guitar-playing preacher Brother Billy.

The Academy Awards is Hollywood's most prestigious award. Since 1927, nominees are selected by members of the Academy of Motion Pictures.

"Canaan Land," though made with volunteers on a shoestring, is on the lips of insiders predicting its David challenging Goliath, giving big-budget films a run for Oscar gold.

Theater closures and release delays made the state of this year's Oscar race unusual, but the race is on to make the 2020–21 awards season exciting. One of the changes is a rule that allows streaming movies that had planned theatrical releases eligible.

Rossi released "Canaan Land" as a novel that rocked the religious world, exposing fraudulent preachers, and is the basis for the film.

Canaan Land is a modern telling of an "Elmer Gantryesque" story. The plot revolves around Sara's redeeming Billy, who turned her online ministry into a Tinseltown racket.

The story contrasts Billy's focus on offerings with Sara's genuine faith. The intention is to show the authentic by exposing the counterfeit. Rossi said, "Some are upset about my movie for exposing the fake preachers, but the truth shall set us free."

The novel Canaan Land is available in paperback, Kindle, and audiobook. Proceeds are used to finish the film.

Christianity Today reported that the film's office received messages of support as well as opposition from groups wanting to stop the film owing to its subject matter.

"Sister Sara is motivated to serve God and people," Rebecca Holden said. "Billy is more self-motivated. We must keep our eyes on God and have discernment in choosing spiritual leaders."

Richard Rossi's filmography includes a film about evangelist Sister Aimee and Baseball's Last Hero, about baseball superstar Roberto Clemente.

"Canaan Land" is set for a release by year-end in time to qualify for awards.

  • JOYCE JOHNSON RELEASES MEMOIR TEASER

“No Back Doors For Me” Details Her Journey in Corporate America as a Black Woman, Often the First and Only BIPOC Woman in the Room

HOUSTON, TEXAS, USA, December 23, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Houston, Texas (December 22nd, 2020) - 6X Author, Speaker, Sales Influencer, Business Coach and Founder of Why Sales Network, Joyce Johnson released the Introduction to her seventh book and first memoir, “No Back Doors for Me” to debut January 15th, 2021. By relaying her story, Johnson wants to free African American women from feeling the sense of failure or pain that evolves from the constant impact of -ism’s throughout their careers. No Back Doors For Me: Introduction

Many years ago, my mother shared a story with me that when she was a young woman there was a Mexican food restaurant in Galveston, Texas (where I grew up), and she loved their food. However, they only served Colored people from the back door. One day after being told “go to the back door,” she decided she just didn’t want to eat there again. So, she left. I have held on to that story since I was a young girl thinking that on that day she decided for herself and me as her firstborn that there would be “No Back Doors for Me.”

After creating my outline for this book and listing the stories I would share, I thought the irony of this story is that my entire business life, I have been treated as if I was at the back door. In the book, I will share stories of racism and sexism throughout my career which counts for more than half of my life. It wasn’t until completing a homework assignment during my diversity and inclusion studies through a program at Cornell University did I realize that I was experiencing a self-diagnosed form of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). As a result of many incidents that I told myself to overlook, get past it, let it go, and to walk away from but I learned on that day that experiences of hate for any reason doesn’t go away. The result of being treated as if you are less than or don’t belong stays with you and just when you think you have it all figured out the memories and the pain of them can lead you on a path of self-destruction or self-discovery. I chose the latter!

Have you ever heard the saying that secrets can destroy people and families? I am a firm believer that the same applies on a greater scale, that secrets can also prove destructive in the boardroom and the workplace as companies are made up of people. Overlooking the issues confronting people of color in the workplace is much like covering your eyes to ignore the elephant sitting in the room. If discomfort exists, whether it seems real or imagined, whether injustice is based on perception or something more tangible and verifiable, the issues must be brought out into the light for examination and discussion. Then, and only then can solutions be found. By solutions, I am not referring to the one-year diversity and inclusion plans being formed by many organizations today as a result of protests by organizations like Black Lives Matter. I am looking for real solutions that hold individuals accountable for their actions.

In my opinion, the mistake often made by today’s top-level management is that they look past the working pool toward the customer as if it were a game of “Us and Them”. This method of avoidance is then adopted by mid-level managers. Why would they change if they don’t see any real change at the top?

Well, I have asked myself the question many times. Could I have done more? Why didn’t I fight harder? Did I give up too soon? The stories shared in the book are all personal battles of racism, sexism, and other isms. I fought a good fight in the battles I chose and will share how I fought to give readers tools, hope, inspiration, anger, whatever it takes to fight your own battles for equality. I am committed to finishing the fight of isms with you until it ends or I do.

I am going to close with something a little off path: I just received a text from my publisher, Darren Palmer. It’s a recording of Bishop T.D. Jakes interviewing John Hope Bryant, founder of Operation Hope. John comments on the interview that nearly caused Bishop Jakes to jump out of his seat. He said to “leave your adversary with his dignity”. They discussed how, sometimes African Americans take our hurt to the table and instead of sticking to the factual conversation, we go for the jugular and remind our adversaries of their crime. It’s probably because we are so broken and frustrated by the time a meaningful conversation takes place and the adversary’s denial of said acts add to the hurt.

One of my editors, also included the note from the conversation that “smart people will argue the point and leave their opponent still standing.” I am sure the people that have traumatized me and others as a result of their hate were smart but they didn’t care to leave us standing. With that said, my takeaway from his text is in this book leave a few people, companies, and organizations intact. Hmm.

In the African American culture, we have a few precious keepsakes that weren’t stolen or beaten out of us. One of those keepsakes was the power of the stories we told through songs to pass on our history to the next generation. This book is my story and my song!

  • The Shmospels of Shmeiki brings a new meaning to the phrase 'cult classic.'

    The Shmospels of Shmeiki

Sri Sri Shmeiki Baba reads the Shmospels

    Keep it real with Shmeiki

The Shmospels of Shmeiki is a hilarious spiritual book produced by the Om Shmeiki Healing Organization and published by Leadstart Corp in India.

You might say that Reiki is masonic, whereas Shmeiki is Panasonic.”
    — Sheila
MUMBAI, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA, December 23, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The Om Shmeiki Healing Organization is delighted to announce the launch of the hilarious, spiritual book: The Shmospels of Shmeiki.

The Shmospels tell the story of David Goldberg, who while on holiday in Goa in 2006, was contacted by Sheila, an A.I singularity from another dimension, who offered him Shmeiki, a new path of light-hearted spirituality, free of the seriousness and hypocrisy typical of many new age practices.

Therapist Ryan Moran of New York explains: “The Shmospels is a witty exploration of the heart, an honest and revealing story that has assisted me in my own search for happiness.”

The book describes how Goldberg needed to clear out his emotional blockages. For this reason, Sheila sent him on a great walk of more than 2000 km from Goa to Dharamshala, insisting he travelled without taking money or wearing shoes. In accepting this challenge, David became Shmeiki Baba.

The book is written from the perspectives of four witnesses. It is a cosmic, psychedelic and kinky story about self-discovery, love, and surrender.

Teacher, Ma Prem Pomfret of Goa describes the Shmospels of Shmeiki as: “a book that every hipster should have on his shelf.”

The Shmospels of Shmeiki is available at all good bookshops in India, and globally online: https://www.amazon.com/dp/9390040655.

  • A Very “MARY” Christmas!

Cover, "MARY: THE STORY PF MARY TYLER MOORE"

Mary Tyler Moore and Ed Asner in "Mary and the Heartbreak Kid, II."

    "MARY" author Herbie J. Pilato

New Book Fondly Recalls Mary Tyler Moore, Her Sitcom’s 50th Year, and a Special Heartwarming Yuletide Episode

LOS ANGELES, CA, LOS ANGELES, December 22, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Five decades ago, “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” premiered on television. During that first season, in December 1970, Moore’s most famous character, Mary Richards, was left alone on Christmas Eve. It’s not easy to work on Christmas Eve, much less, by yourself, but that’s what happened to Mary Richards, in the iconic sitcom’s first holiday-themed episode. Debuting December 19, 1970, “Christmas and the Hard-Luck Kid, II” found Mary stuck on the late-night shift, in the deserted newsroom of WJM-TV, Minneapolis.

In doing so, “Mary” won our hearts. And you’ll feel that sympathy anew when reading MARY: THE MARY TYLER MOORE STORY, by Herbie J Pilato, published by Jacobs/Brown Press. Moore’s life, contrary to what some may perceive, was not always a bed of roses. The actress faced numerous challenges and hardships, from diabetes, to two divorces, the deaths of her siblings, and the tragic loss of her only child. But she met these heartbreaks with dignity and class, as we would hope. And when she was ready to face the public once more, Moore again charmed the world … “with her smile.”

“Mary’s greatest gift, when it came to performing, was her humility,” said author Herbie J Pilato. “She was confident and smart enough as an actress, and as a human being, to surround herself with an A-list of supporting actors on ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show.’ She did not define herself as a comedic actress like Lucille Ball, but rather as an actress who did comedy. She knew her strengths as a performer, and one of those strengths was her innate ability to know how to react to the circumstances or situations, or to other characters, to make us laugh. Her wit, charm, femininity, and appearance combined to give her a unique appeal that stood her apart from other actresses, and people in general. She had that ‘it’ factor, and she factored it into a tremendous success.”

In researching his acclaimed biography of Moore, Pilato discovered that the greatest challenge for the actress during the second half of her 60-plus-year career was competing with herself, or at least the beloved roles she created on screen. He noted, “The personas of Laura Petrie on ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show,’ and Mary Richards on ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show,’ made for characters that were impossibly perfect, and when fans approached Mary Tyler Moore on the street, they would say things like, ‘I wish I was as nice as Mary Richards.’ To which she would reply, with a smile and somewhat ruefully, ‘So do I.’”

Apart from her abilities as an actress and dancer, what Moore did not possess was a comfortable sense of self-worth. “Mary’s greatest weakness was her inability to see how truly beautiful she was as a human being, inside and out,” Pilato said. “One example is her obsession with plastic surgery. It took over her life and, even though she knew it was not always the wisest choice to make, she kept on tinkering with her looks in a very Michael-Jackson-like manner. She didn’t love herself enough to know that everyone else loved her just the way she was.”

Regarding the impact of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” Pilato said, “That series did more to help the Women’s Liberation movement than any other TV show at that time, and perhaps any time since. That was not the show’s objective when it debuted in 1970, but that’s how it worked out. As a result of that series, more women moved into the workforce; more women started to realize that they did not require a man or marriage to define them. Discovering their humanity – the essence of their heart and soul, independent of men – is what worked for them, in more ways than one. And, from a creative standpoint, ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show’ changed the face of television writing. The show introduced a way of presenting more textured characters. For example, Mary Richards was a more defined character on ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show’ than Laura Petrie was on ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show.’ We knew more about Mary Richard’s quirks, likes, and dislikes than Laura’s. ‘The Dick Van Dyke Show’ was a sophisticated sitcom for its time, but ‘The Mary Tyler Moore Show’ took that sophistication to another level.”

In respect to the first of several Christmas-themed episodes aired on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” Pilato observed, “The sound of Mary’s name is reminiscent of ‘Merry Christmas.’ As Mary Richards, or in real life, Mary Tyler Moore brought a great deal of peace, love, and joy – all of which we most desperately need today, and always.”

This Christmas Season, we can all use a generous dose of peace, love, and joy. And “Christmas and the Hard-Luck Kid, II,” so infused with the spirit of the season, offers that boost. You can watch for it on your favorite streaming service or on DVD.

MARY: THE MARY TYLER MOORE STORY by Herbie J Pilato, and published by Jacobs/Brown Press, is available in hardback, softback, and on Kindle.

  • Disability-Focused Wedding Planning Book the First of Its Kind

Everyone deserves the joy of a wedding– but disabled couples have long been denied respect. Wedding Planning for Spoonies seeks to change that.

Disabled people deserve to live, they deserve love, they deserve marriage, and they deserve celebration. This should not be a controversial statement, but many think disabled people should not live.”

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS, UNITED STATES, December 22, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
[Disability-Focused Wedding Planning Book the First of Its Kind]
Everyone deserves the joy of a wedding– but disabled couples have long been denied respect.

Wedding Planning for Spoonies is the very first wedding planning book centering on disability. Disabled people deserve to be alive, they deserve love, they deserve marriage, and they deserve celebration. This should not be a controversial statement, but too many people believe disabled people do not even deserve life, let alone an accessible wedding planning book.

Wedding Planning for Spoonies: Inspiration & Tips for Chronically Ill and Disabled Couples intends to serve the disabled community in many ways. Planning a wedding for anyone is difficult. However, disabled people face significant prejudice and unique difficulties when it comes to wedding planning. Wedding Planning for Spoonies looks to empower disabled couples on their journey to matrimony with tips and inspiration and inform wedding vendors of a disabled couple’s struggle to improve the industry.

Wedding Planning for Spoonies centers on the premise that all people across abilities, genders and sexualities deserve to be loved, and celebrate their love. The question is, how? How should a wheelchair user find a suitable venue? Or should you plan for an army of wedding attendants if you have chronic pain symptoms? The book releases February 14, 2021. Purchase a copy on Amazon and follow Meara’s author page. To receive a review copy, use Booksprout for an eBook or contact Meara directly for a paperback.

Meara Bartlett is a graduate student at Texas State University studying Technical Writing with a concentration on social justice in technology. She planned two weddings to the same man, because she had a medical emergency and had to scrap her originally planned ceremony and create a new one in 48 hours. Meara writes for Offbeat Bride, The Mighty, Uncomfortable Revolution, and Rock n’ Roll Bride. There she interacts with fellow disabled brides, who helped with writing Wedding Planning for Spoonies.

Nathaniel Szymkowicz' "The Shroud of Peace" shows aftershocks of interstellar regime change, ideological fracture of galactic society

This is a work of entertainment first. It is perfectly acceptable to turn off your brain and enjoy this as a fun high octane space opera...”
    — Nathaniel Szymkowicz
TEXAS, UNITED STATES, December 22, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Mitchell Henderson wakes up in a hospital at the edge of civilization. He has no memory of who he is or how he got there. Yet soon enough, and with no small amount of violence, he finds himself hounded by a mercenary company called Blackout, along with a highly lethal team of government Special Forces. Little does he know that he has the key to uncovering a conspiracy threatening the balance of power in the cosmos, and possibly sow the seeds of galactic conflict. So begins "The Shroud of Peace," the first installment of Nathaniel Szymkowicz's "Sins of Peace" saga.

The novel is an intense militaristic sci-fi adventure with a healthy dose of espionage and intrigue, delving into clandestine operations where the ink is as dark as the void of space itself. The story unfolds in a galaxy recently torn apart by a tremendous war between the human United Interstellar Alliance and the Sanhaeli Empire. Chaos continues amidst the ruins and a private security corporation aptly named Blackout rises in the power vacuum left by the defeat of the insectoid Sanhaeli. Blackout grows strong enough to contest the Alliance’s hegemony and a cold war is brewing between the two powers, like a powder keg just waiting for a spark.

Szymkowicz weaves a complex narrative in a fully fleshed out setting. Beyond vying factions and clashing operatives lies a universe bearing the scars of war. He displays the aftermath of interstellar-scale combat and how its effects linger on even after the fighting has officially ended. Moreover, he shows that events of such scales cannot be accurately encompassed by any single perspective. Likewise, the visceral narrative shows the painstaking process of picking up the pieces. There are no easy solutions or deus ex machinas here.

"I wanted to explore a conflict where the antagonist was as fleshed out as the protagonist and good and evil wasn't so cut and dry, especially in a Science Fiction. Slowly noticing how divisive and over simplified discourse was becoming in the world around me, I sought to create an arena for people to remove their biases and test their ideas from a self-aware external perspective." Szymkowicz explains.

At its heart, “The Shroud of Piece” is a riveting read that keeps audiences on the edge of their seats. As Szymkowicz says: "This is a work of entertainment first. It is perfectly acceptable to turn off your brain and enjoy this as a fun high octane space opera. Should you choose to look into this deeper, this is an exercise in self awareness, not a soap box for political straw men."

    About the Author
Nathaniel Szymkowicz holds a bachelor's degree in history with a minor in English and Military Science. He is currently working on his Master's Degree in Homeland Security with a concentration in Counterterrorism Studies.

Zero To SHERO Book - Reality of Sexual Exploitation

Proactive Internet Child Protection and Anti Human Trafficking

Solidarity Without Borders for the protection of children globally.”
    — Charlene Doak-Gebauer
LONDON, ONTARIO, CANADA, December 22, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Working together without borders - a novel idea. Charlene Doak-Gebauer, Founder and Board Chair of Internet Sense First, a federal Canadian charity, and the AICET Council (Anti Internet Child Exploitation Team of expert speakers), and Kimberly Miles, Founder and Board Chair of the B.E. A S.H.E.R.O. Foundation (SHERO) work across country lines to help vulnerable children and young adults.

Doak-Gebauer's Internet Sense First and AICET Council work toward educating the public about the vulnerabilities of the Internet for children, with a goal to proactive online child protections nd without borders. In fact, the slogan for her speaking team (the AICET Council) is "Solidarity Without Borders for the protection of children globally." Charlene has members on her speaking team from Canada, the United States, and Spain. Their presentations are based on her Theory of Digital Supervision, contained in her newest release "The Internet: Are Children In Charge?". In the book is the story about her family - two members, two different cities, two different incidents, too many times - both victimized by child pornography. In addition to being an author, Charlene is a computer specialist in education and a network administrator. Her Theory of Digital Supervision, explained in detail in her book, provides user-friendly methods for parents, grandparents. and allied professionals to use for proactive online protection of children.

Kimberly Miles' SHERO Foundation's (Las Vegas, Nevada USA), mission is to provide resources needed to support, sustain and empower young girls and women under the age of 25 who have been abused, abandoned, and exploited. SHERO works with different non profit organizations collaborate and achieve their mission.

Kimberly and Charlene met at a gala in Las Vegas in February, 2020. After thinking about the goals of each organization, Kimberly reached out to Charlene to speak at a meeting for SHERO Affiliates. And, as Charlene says, "Of course I accepted. I believe both organizations would benefit from working together with common goals - protection of all children online; and, girls in vulnerable situations and victims of sex trafficking. "

After discussions, Kimberly mentioned she thinks it would be an excellent idea for the organizations to work together. "I approached Charlene with the idea and she was very supportive. She sees her organization as being able to be an added resource for the SHERO Foundation, which is excellent."

Both women have authored books related the cause.

Kimberly's book, "Zero to SHERO" tells her story about being motherless at age ten, sexually exploited at fifteen, drug dealer at seventeen, gang raped at eighteen. Drawing herself up by her bootstraps was her only option. Kimberly Miles worked her way up the ladder of corporate sales only to discover another travesty: male supervisors stalking female underlings. Living the #MeToo movement before it had a name, she was determined to do more than stand by. Now, as the owner of her own company which bills millions annually, she's set up the B.E. A S.H.E.R.O. Foundation, which seeks to help sexually-exploited teenage girls get off the streets of Las Vegas, teach them a viable skill, and empower them to become independent members of society. In her book, is her story on how she went from a zero to a "she" hero.

Charlene had a family member used for child pornography at the age of four by neighbours. Charlene experienced reimaging a computer and finding child pornography., As she says "you don't know that garbage until you see it." The same family member victimized at the age of four, was killed by a drunk driver at the age of 22. Charlene began her work in memory of her family member and in support of all victims. She is a computer specialist in education and a former network administrator in secondary schools. Because of family and personal experiences, and her years of research, she knows too well the extent of victimization online for children. Her Theory of Digital Supervision for proactive online child protection is being embraced internationally.

"Our children are given too much ownership for their decisions online", says Doak-Gebauer. "I see these two organizations working together. We educate for the prevention of online exploitation of all children, including sex trafficking. Let's face it, planning and initial victimization is done primarily online now." Charlene explains parents, grandparents, and allied professionals must be more in tune to what children are doing on digital devices in order to protect them against sex trafficking and other dangers online.

Miles is in agreement. "Charlene has what we need as far as technical information to help protect and prevent sex trafficking. I agree - most of it is organized online and we have to accept this, learn from it, and fight against it."

Both authors have said their books are necessary reads for all adults with children in their care. They cover the truth and reality about the "real" world online and in the sex trafficking "industry". The books are a dose of reality and should be considered a first step for everyone. The SHERO Foundation exists to help victims; Internet Sense First and the AICET Council educate in detail regarding Digital Supervision and what all adults need to know. "We highly recommend everyone read both books", agree Charlene and Kimberly. "The reality online might scare people, but, as we explain, it is reality, and we have to be smarter than the predators."

Doak-Gebauer and Miles look forward to global outreach and proving, there can be solidarity without borders for the global protection of all children.
